My Story
I love a good story, and so does my family. Much of my work is rooted in the everyday narratives of our lives - especially in such an unprecedented time as this. Creativity helps us thrive.
There are stories all around us. You just have to look closely, ask questions, and expect wonder.
During our seemingly endless COVID quarantine, this robin’s egg fell from our willow tree in the front yard. The tiny orb - now devoid of life - sparked our imaginations for how beauty might enliven our everyday experiences. We perched it on a piece of driftwood on our front porch for many weeks. I began painting again after a long hiatus around this same time. The practice of creativity has been an opportunity for sustenance and exploration in my life in the midst of the abnormality of this season. How can moments that seem hopeless bring hope? How can the mundane reveal what is most important and true in our lives? My mini-landscapes often ask these types of questions, and reveal how simple things can be the most revelatory. Where do you find wonder in simplicity, in the mundane, in the hopeless parts of your life?
